Vincent van Gogh’s “Congregation Leaving the Reformed Church in Nuenen”
Disappeared along with another painting in December, 2002, when thieves broke into the Vincent van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. The two paintings had a combined value of $30 million. Dutch police convicted two men of the theft the next year, but have not recovered the works.
Jan van Eyck’s “The Just Judges”
It is a piece of a larger work called the “Ghent Altarpiece.” It was stolen during the night of April 10, 1934, from the Saint Bavo Cathedral in Ghent, Belgium, and held for ransom. On his deathbed, the thief revealed that he was the only one who knew where the painting was hidden, but gave no further information.
