Olous was an ancient city-state, based in Elounda Bay, Crete. Its history can be traced back to the Minoan era and it was mentioned in Homer works. In the Hellenic times, Olous was one of the most powerful cities of Crete with more than 30000 inhabitants. But unlike other cities of that region it was built on unreliable coastal sands and literally slipped under water during an earthquake.

It can be said, that Olous is an underwater city «for beginners». Thanks to its modern location — right under the surface — ruins of Olous can be easily reached by snorkelling or diving. No wonder the only remnants of the city are walls in a pretty bad shape.
